MBX Systems has come a long way since opening its doors under the name Drive Express in April of 1995. Starting with just two employees and one computer, the company began by selling hard drives to consumers through mail order ads in hobbyist magazines. This business quickly expanded to other components, and by October of 1995 the name was officially changed to "Drive and Motherboard Express" to reflect this expanded lineup of products.
Nearly a year later, sales almost doubled overnight after a favorable review in Computer Shopper that touted both the company's customer service and its knowledge of the components it sold. (This knowledge and dedication to service would later form the foundation of the MBX's appliance business.) The name was shortened to simply "Motherboard Express" while the product offering was expanded over the next few years to include the entire PC. The company continued to grow exponentially, but a change was in the wind.
In March of 2000, the seeds for what is now MBX Systems were sewn as the company began to offer OEM solutions for customers looking to integrate their software into the newly forming appliance model. While still continuing to sell components direct to consumers – and being named the "Best Place to Buy Motherboards and Components" by the readers of Computer Shopper – it became apparent that the future was in appliances.
Today, MBX Systems has established itself as the partner of choice to convert software for video on demand, firewall, spam filtering, network and application management, and other applications to the appliance model.
