MBX Systems Inaugurates New Libertyville Headquarters Nov. 8November 6th 2012
‘Quality Plant of the Year’ Relocated from Wauconda in $3 Million Buildout;
State Economic Department’s Dan Seals to Speak at Event
Technology manufacturer MBX Systems is inaugurating its new 83,000-square-foot Libertyville headquarters at 2 pm on Thursday, November 8, with a reception, building tour and a discussion of the significance of the company’s expansion for economic development by Dan Seals, Assistant Director of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. The event is open to the public.
MBX relocated from Wauconda to the former Motorola building in Libertyville at 1200 Technology Way (formerly 1900 Winchester) last month following a $3 million remodeling project. The move quadrupled MBX’s physical space, enabled an eightfold expansion of its manufacturing floor, will accommodate an expected doubling of the company’s workforce to more than 200 by 2017, and included installation of:
- 13 miles of cabling
- A new ‘innovation room’ for research and testing of new manufacturing methods
- A new customer service lab for prototyping and other customer-specific services
- A manufacturing floor built in a new ‘super cell’ configuration to expedite order delivery
- A professional photography studio to serve customers’ product marketing needs, and
- A full-facility backup generator system to ensure continued operation during power outages.
MBX manufactures custom-built server appliances for software vendors in more than 40 industries who deliver their applications pre-loaded on hardware systems for optimized performance and ease of deployment in business data centers. The company was the sole recipient of the 2012 Quality Plant of the Year award by Quality Magazine for its extensive quality management capabilities and manufacturing innovations that have virtually eliminated system failures.
“Our business involves custom-engineering each hardware platform for every customer. No two platforms are alike. Our growth has been fueled by our extensive customization and support services as well as our focus on quality,” said MBX Systems CEO Tom Crowley. “This move to Libertyville gives us both the space and the expanded infrastructure we need to accommodate more customers and larger orders, plus a desirable location for recruiting new employees.”
MBX moved to its previous facility in Wauconda in 2005 and expanded the building to 19,000 square feet in 2009. The company quickly outgrew the larger space and has continued to log strong growth, including a 20% workforce expansion and 60% rise in revenues from new customers in the first 10 months of 2012.
